Cambodia Denies Request to Reopen Border for Emergency Goods, Rejects “False Claims”
AKP Phnom Penh, April 15, 2026 —
Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defence has firmly rejected claims circulating on social media and in some Thai media outlets that Cambodia requested the reopening of the border for emergency goods, calling the reports false and misleading.
In a press release issued on Wednesday afternoon, the Ministry’s spokesperson expressed strong disappointment over the repeated dissemination of inaccurate information intended to mislead both national and international audiences.
The spokesperson clarified that Cambodia has made no such request and emphasised that the closure of the border crossing was a unilateral decision by Thailand. As such, responsibility for reopening the border rests with the Thai side, the statement said.
The Ministry reaffirmed that Cambodia remains prepared to respond appropriately to any developments.
At the same time, the public was urged to remain vigilant and to verify information carefully to avoid being misled by false or unverified reports.
