Cambodia, Japan Sign Additional Grant Aid Deal for Ta Khmao Water Supply Project
AKP Phnom Penh, March 19, 2026 -- Cambodia and Japan have signed an exchange of notes to increase grant assistance for the expansion of the water supply system in Ta Khmao, further strengthening bilateral development cooperation.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn and Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Ueno Atsushi.
Under the amended agreement, the total grant for the project has been increased from JPY 3.421 billion (approximately US$22 million) to JPY 3.568 billion (approximately US$23 million). The project was originally signed on Mar. 24, 2020.
The additional funding reflects Japan’s continued support for Cambodia’s socio-economic development, particularly in improving water supply infrastructure.
Both sides noted that the assistance also contributes to further strengthening cooperation under the Cambodia-Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
