Tourism Ministry Launches Mobile Video Contest to Promote Angkor Equinox Event
AKP Phnom Penh, March 18, 2026 --
The Ministry of Tourism has announced a video competition using mobile phones to promote the Angkor Equinox event under the theme “Angkor Wonders.”
The Angkor Equinox, a natural phenomenon in which the sun rises directly above the central tower of Angkor Wat, creates a striking visual spectacle that reflects the scientific knowledge and beliefs of ancient Khmer civilisation. The event attracts large numbers of national and international tourists each year.
The phenomenon occurs twice annually: during the vernal equinox from Mar. 21 to 23 and the autumnal equinox from Sept. 21 to 23.
To further promote this unique event, the Ministry is inviting tourists and the public to participate in a video contest capturing the Angkor Equinox using mobile phones.
Participants are required to register via QR code and submit self-filmed videos with a duration of 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes. The competition will take place from Mar. 21 to 22, 2026, and videos must be submitted via the link: https://bit.ly/VideoEquinoxAngkorContest between Mar. 23 and 24, 2026.
The result will be announced on Mar. 26, 2026. Five winners will be selected, with prizes ranging from 2 million Riel (about US$500) for first place, 1.5 million Riel (US$375) for second, 1 million Riel (US$250) for third, 800,000 Riel (US$200) for fourth, and 600,000 Riel (US$150) for fifth place.
