Cambodia and ROK Pledge to Expand Bilateral Cooperation Across Multiple Sectors
AKP Phnom Penh, March 17, 2026 -- The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, H.E. Kim Changyong, has pledged to further strengthen and expand bilateral ties, focusing on key areas of mutual interest during a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed enhancing collaboration in several critical sectors, including economy, trade, investment, education, and national defense and security.
Both parties also lauded the "good and fruitful cooperation" between their respective national police forces, specifically in combating online fraud.
Ambassador Kim Changyong expressed his honour at being appointed to represent the Republic of Korea in a nation with a "long history and rich culture and civilization." He highlighted the excellent trajectory of bilateral relations, which have grown steadily since the reestablishment of diplomatic ties in 1997, a foundation built with the encouragement of former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen.
Noting that 2027 will mark the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the Ambassador announced that the embassy plans to organize a series of programmes to commemorate this significant milestone.
In response, Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet congratulated Ambassador Kim on his new appointment and lauded the "steady progress and excellent cooperation" between the two nations. The Premier recalled the elevation of bilateral ties to a "Strategic Partnership" in 2024, a framework he stated "opened the way for further strengthening and expanding bilateral relations and cooperation."
