UK Envoy Visits Cambodian Sanctuary to Spotlight Conservation Efforts
AKP Phnom Penh, March 12, 2026 -- A senior official from the British Embassy in Phnom Penh has visited a wildlife sanctuary in eastern Cambodia to underscore international support for forest conservation and biodiversity protection in the Southeast Asian nation.
Ms. Abigail Fryer, the Deputy Head of Mission at the British Embassy, toured the Trapeang Thmear ranger station in the Sre Pork Wildlife Sanctuary on Wednesday.
The visit was organised by a team from WWF-Cambodia’s Eastern Plains Landscape (EPL) programme, in collaboration with provincial environment department officials and local community members.
According to WWF-Cambodia, Ms. Fryer’s delegation learned about the daily operations of park rangers, including patrols, wildlife monitoring, and efforts to prevent illegal activities within the protected area. The rangers shared the challenges they face in the field and highlighted the need for further support to enhance their capacity and effectiveness.
During the visit, the delegation also participated in a tree-planting activity as part of WWF-Cambodia’s forest restoration programme.
The visit emphasised the critical role of supporting park rangers and fostering international partnerships in the ongoing effort to protect Cambodia’s forests and rich biodiversity.
