His Majesty the King: Women Key to Peace, Prosperity, and National Progress
AKP Phnom Penh, March 08, 2026 -- His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, has emphasised the crucial role of women in promoting peace, equality, and national development in a Royal Message marking the 115th International Women’s Day on Mar. 8 under the theme “Peace and Security for Women and Families.”
In the message, the monarch expressed great joy in joining women across Cambodia and around the world in celebrating the occasion, which aims to strengthen the empowerment of women and girls.
The King noted that promoting the rights, equality, and empowerment of women and girls is not only a key priority for achieving sustainable development goals but also an essential factor for accelerating gender equality and inclusive socio-economic development.
His Majesty highlighted that women represent resilience, patience, courage, and sacrifice, and play a crucial role in the prosperity and progress of society. “Women are the backbone of the national economy,” he stated.
The King also stressed the importance of peace, noting that peace creates a favourable environment for women and girls to participate fully and benefit equally from development in all sectors, thereby contributing to a harmonious and prosperous society.
Referring to the current situation along the Cambodia-Thailand border, the monarch noted that some Cambodian citizens have become displaced and are staying in safe shelters in several provinces. Women, he said, have played an important role in caring for their families under these difficult circumstances.
The King expressed gratitude to Buddhist monks, national institutions, and national and international donors for their timely support in providing food and essential supplies to affected families.
His Majesty also thanked the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the National Committee for Promoting Social Morality, Women and Family Values, and the Cambodian National Council for Women for their efforts in addressing gender gaps and improving the living conditions, rights, and roles of Cambodian women.
The King further encouraged greater support for women and girls in accessing digital technology and education in science, technology, engineering, and arts, helping them adapt to new economic opportunities and the changing demands of modern society.
