Cambodian PM Highlights Peace and Security as Foundation for Women’s Rights and Family Well-Being
AKP Phnom Penh, March 07, 2026 -- Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has underscored that peace and security are fundamental to advancing women’s rights and ensuring the well-being of families, in a message marking the 115th International Women’s Day (Mar. 8) under the theme “Peace and Security for Women and Families.”
In his message, the Prime Minister noted that peace and security are not only national or global goals but realities that begin within families, communities, and the daily lives of women and households.
On the occasion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed profound respect and gratitude to His Majesty King, Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath Norodom Sihamoni, and Her Majesty Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk for their continued attention to the welfare of the Cambodian people, particularly the promotion of the status, rights, and roles of Cambodian women and girls.
The Prime Minister also commended the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Cambodian National Council for Women, relevant ministries and institutions, the private sector, civil society organisations, and development partners for their continued contributions to advancing women’s rights and welfare in Cambodia.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet emphasised that peace is an invaluable asset for Cambodia. He highlighted the historic significance of the “Win-Win Policy” introduced by former Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, now President of the Senate, which brought lasting peace, national reconciliation, and unity, laying the foundation for Cambodia’s development.
The Premier reaffirmed that the Royal Government continues to prioritise gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls across all sectors, including the economy, education, health, and public leadership, under the Pentagonal Strategy – Phase 1.
He stressed that women are not only beneficiaries of peace but also essential contributors to building and maintaining peace in families, communities, and society. Cambodia has also gained international recognition for its participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, including the contribution of many female peacekeepers. From 2006 to 2025, the Kingdom sent a total of 10,447 peacekeepers, of which 990 were women, to join UN peacekeeping missions in 10 countries.
Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on ministries, institutions, and development partners to continue strengthening investment in women and gender equality, prevent gender-based violence, expand social protection systems, and support women entrepreneurs to ensure that women and girls can fully participate in building peace and national development.
He further noted that promoting women’s roles is vital for sustainable social and economic development, as women are the heart of families and a key driving force within communities and society.
The Prime Minister also urged all stakeholders to create favourable conditions for women and girls to develop their potential and actively participate in political, economic, and social life on an equal footing with men.
In conclusion, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet called on all citizens to continue working together with the Royal Government to create greater opportunities for women and girls to contribute actively to maintaining peace and advancing Cambodia’s socio-economic development.
