Cambodia and Australia Highlight Women’s Leadership at International Women’s Day Event

Cambodia’s Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Australian Embassy jointly celebrated the 115th Anniversary of International Women’s Day (Mar. 8) on Mar. 5, highlighting the vital role of women’s leadership in driving human capital development.
The event was presided over by H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodia’s Minister of Women’s Affairs, and Australian Ambassador H.E. Derek Yip.
Held under the topic “Women Leading Human Capital Transformation,” the ceremony underscored the importance of empowering women as key actors in national development.
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi stressed that people are the central force behind national transformation, noting that women are not only active contributors but also essential leaders in advancing human capital development.
She added that sustainable progress in human capital requires peace and security as indispensable foundations, reflecting a shared vision between Cambodia and Australia to promote women’s rights and empowerment.
For his part, Ambassador Derek Yip emphasised that investing in women and girls is a powerful driver of sustainable development.
Providing greater opportunities for women, he said, can help reduce social conflict, strengthen stability, boost economic productivity and expand women’s participation in social and public affairs.
The celebration highlighted the close cooperation between Cambodia and Australia in promoting women’s empowerment and strengthening women’s capacity as a pillar for the country’s future development.
