Cambodia, UN Strengthen Cooperation to Promote Gender Equality
AKP Phnom Penh, February 20, 2026 -- The Ministry of Women’s Affairs (MoWA) and the United Nations (UN) are strengthening their cooperation to promote gender equality in Cambodia.
This commitment was reaffirmed during a meeting held on Feb. 20 between H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Minister of Women’s Affairs, and H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia.
The meeting aimed to enhance and reaffirm the valued partnership between the two institutions in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment nationwide.
During the discussions, both sides highlighted the continuation of their longstanding cooperation in areas such as gender mainstreaming across sectors, the promotion of women’s economic empowerment, the prevention of gender-based violence, the advancement of positive social norms, and the strengthening of women’s participation in decision-making processes.
They also emphasised the increasingly active role of Cambodian women in peacebuilding, governance, and socio-economic development, while acknowledging emerging challenges in both regional and global contexts.
Both the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the United Nations reaffirmed their strong commitment to jointly promoting sustainable social development and further enhancing the status, resilience, and empowerment of women in Cambodia.
