Cambodian National Assembly President Hails Brunei on 42nd National Day
AKP Phnom Penh, February 20, 2026 -- The President of Cambodia’s National Assembly, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, on Friday extended formal congratulations to Brunei Darussalam ahead of its 42nd National Day, pledging to deepen legislative cooperation between the two Southeast Asian nations.
In a congratulatory letter addressed to Honourable Pehin Dato Haji Abdul Rahman Taib, Speaker of Brunei’s Legislative Council, Samdech Sudary underscored the "deep-rooted friendship" and burgeoning bilateral ties defining the relationship between the two Kingdoms.
"Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam remain committed to further strengthening bilateral relations, particularly between our respective legislative bodies," Samdech Sudary said in the message, dated Feb. 20.
Brunei, an oil-rich sultanate on the island of Borneo, officially celebrates its National Day on Feb. 23, marking its 1984 independence from British protectorate status.
The exchange highlights Cambodia's ongoing efforts to bolster ties within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) bloc. Samdech Sudary expressed confidence that the inter-parliamentary partnership would continue to "flourish in the years ahead" to the mutual benefit of both populations.
The National Assembly President concluded the message with wishes for Brunei’s continued "progress and prosperity" under its current leadership.
