Philippine Armed Forces Chief Observes Border Situation in Banteay Meanchey
AKP Phnom Penh, February 13, 2026 --
H.E. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, on Friday afternoon observed the post-ceasefire situation at the Boeung Trakuon Border Checkpoint in Thmar Puok district, Banteay Meanchey province.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Spokeswoman of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defence, the observation visit took place at 2:05 p.m. and was conducted in the presence of the Cambodian Liaison Group (CLG) and the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT), reflecting ongoing regional efforts to monitor and support the implementation of the ceasefire.
The visit demonstrates the Philippines’ strong commitment in its role as the rotating ASEAN Chair, as well as its upcoming role as AOT’s Lead Nation in 2026, following the planned handover from Malaysia, underlined the spokeswoman.
The Ministry of National Defence reiterated that since the ceasefire came into effect, Cambodia has consistently respected and fully implemented the Ceasefire Agreement, the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand signed on Oct. 26, 2025, the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee held on Dec. 27, 2025, and other related agreements.
