Giant Puppet Project 2026 Hits 80% Completion Ahead of Siem Reap Parade
AKP Phnom Penh, February 13, 2026 -- Preparations for Cambodia’s premier children's community arts event, the Giant Puppet Parade, have reached the 80 percent mark, with organisers entering the final stages of production ahead of the highly anticipated procession through the streets of Siem Reap on Feb. 21.
Mr. Un Savann, a representative of the Giant Puppet Project, told AKP on Friday afternoon that five out of the eight planned massive puppets have been completed. He noted that the team is working at a brisk pace to finalise the remaining pieces according to schedule.
"The event serves as a platform to showcase the creative talents of Cambodian children to both domestic and international tourists, while simultaneously boosting local tourism," he said.
The 2026 edition, themed "Wild Parade!", celebrates Cambodia’s diverse wildlife, ranging from iconic species to rare and endangered animals. This year’s lineup features eight distinct puppets: 1. Eld’s Deer; 2. White Pigeon; 3. Hairy-nosed Otter; 4. Asian Elephant; 5. Yellow-cheeked Gibbon; 6. Firefly; 7. Cardamom Marbled Gecko ; 8. Great Hornbill.
The project involves nearly 200 children from various local organisations and NGOs, working under the guidance of 10 professional artists from Battambang province.
Since its inception in 2007, the Giant Puppet Project has evolved into Cambodia’s largest annual arts initiative for youth.
Beyond fostering creativity, the project aims to build self-confidence, encourage teamwork, and instill a sense of pride in the nation’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
The colourful procession is scheduled to commence on Feb. 21 evening, winding through the heart of Siem Reap to highlight the intersection of community art and environmental conservation.
