Cambodia Urges UN to Bolster Disaster Resilience and Displacement Support
AKP Phnom Penh, February 10, 2026 --
Senior Minister H.E. Kitti Sangahapundit Kun Kim, First Vice-President of the National Committee for Disaster Management (NCDM), has called on the United Nations to deepen its commitment to Cambodia’s disaster risk infrastructure and humanitarian response.
During a high-level meeting on Monday with UN Resident Coordinator H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, H.E. Kun Kim emphasised the necessity of sustained international cooperation to meet the goals of the Kingdom’s National Action Plan for Disaster Risk Reduction 2024-2028.
The discussions centred on scaling up technical support and reinforcing the "Pentagonal Strategy-Phase 1," which integrates disaster resilience into the heart of Cambodia’s national development.
The Senior Minister underscored the vital synergy between the NCDM and UN agencies – including the WFP, UNDP, UN Women, and IOM – citing successful initiatives in early warning systems and large-scale aid distribution, such as the delivery of 220 tonnes of rice to displaced families in Oddar Meanchey.
"While our forces remain firm on the front lines, the Royal Government’s priority is equally fixed on the 'rear battlefield' – the safety and dignity of our displaced citizens," H.E. Kun Kim stated, echoing the directive of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
In response, Ms. Andreeva pledged the UN’s continued partnership, specifically committing to the rapid preparation of temporary shelters to ensure health and sanitation standards are met ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
