Nearly 5,000 More Displaced People Return Home
AKP Phnom Penh, February 03, 2026 -- An additional 4,945 displaced persons have returned to their respective homes as of this morning, according to a news release issued by the Ministry of Interior.
The Ministry reported that approximately 550,000 people have now reintegrated into their communities, accounting for about 84 percent of the more than 640,000 people who were displaced. This reflects continued progress in the return and reintegration process following the displacement crisis.
Despite these positive developments, the Ministry noted that 104,099 displaced persons remain in safe camps. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to continuing efforts to facilitate safe returns and to support the remaining displaced population through coordinated assistance and reintegration measures.
Regarding the remaining displaced persons, H.E. Pen Bona, Spokesperson of the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC), at the press briefing yesterday, said that the RGC has continued to prioritise assistance for displaced citizens while actively safeguarding national sovereignty through diplomatic means.
H.E. Pen Bona outlined three key measures currently being implemented: facilitating the safe return of displaced people through mine and unexploded ordnance clearance; strengthening and, where necessary, relocating temporary shelters for those who are not yet able to return; and assessing and rapidly restoring damaged public infrastructure using national resources and support from development partners.
In addition, the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction is working closely with relevant stakeholders, including the National Committee for Disaster Management, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, and the provincial Departments of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction of Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Pursat, Oddar Meanchey, and Preah Vihear, to assess certain areas and provide temporary housing for the remaining displaced people in the camps.
