Cambodia Baby Olympics Aims to Inspire Children’s Participation in Sports
AKP Phnom Penh, January 26, 2026 --
The Cambodia Baby Olympics, the first of its kind, will be held at AEON Mall Mean Chey on Feb. 1, 2026, with 330 children registered to take part, aiming to open new opportunities and inspire young children to engage in sports.
The information was highlighted by H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), during a press conference held over the weekend at AEON Mall Mean Chey, Phnom Penh.
H.E. Vath Chamroeun said the event is open to children aged between one and seven years old. Each child may register to compete in up to three sports disciplines out of a total of ten. The Cambodia Baby Olympics is designed to cultivate a sporting spirit among young children and encourage them to develop interest, passion, and early engagement in sports, with the aim of nurturing potential athletes in the future.
He underlined that the event is inspired by the spirit and ideals of the Olympic Movement, which are globally recognised for providing opportunities for young people to come together and participate in sports activities. The initiative seeks to promote the Olympic Movement starting from grassroots participation among children.
H.E. Vath Chamroeun further emphasised that the event encourages children to gather and play sports together to enhance their physical abilities and sporting mindset. He stressed that the competition is not focused on winning or achieving results, but rather on allowing children to demonstrate their abilities.
The NOCC Secretary General added that through such activities, parents are able to observe their children’s abilities, interests, and interaction with other children, helping them better understand which sports their children may enjoy and be suited for.
He also noted that during the 2028 Summer Olympic Games to be hosted by the United States, gold medalists are often studied for their sporting backgrounds, including whether they previously participated and won medals in Baby Olympics events.
