Cambodian Wildlife Rangers Seize Over 100 Illegal Snares in Koh Kong Sanctuary Crackdown
AKP Phnom Penh, January 16, 2026 --
Wildlife rangers have conducted patrols to remove illegal traps and hunting devices in two protected areas of Koh Kong province.
In a statement issued on Jan. 16, the Ministry of Environment reported that during an operation in the Phnom Kravanh National Park, officials removed 68 animal snares. These were discovered in Trapaing Chheutrav village, Russey Chrum commune, Thmar Bang district.
In a separate operation within the Tatay Wildlife Sanctuary, rangers from the Trapaing Roung patrol post confiscated 49 animal snares, 6 metres of nylon fishing line, 100 hooks, and one battery-powered shocking device. The equipment was found in Trapaing Roung village of the province's Koh Kong district.
All confiscated items have been secured as evidence at the respective patrol station offices, the ministry confirmed.
The operations are part of ongoing efforts to crack down on natural resource crimes and suppress illegal hunting activities in Cambodia's protected areas.
