MOWRAM Outlines Strategies to Strengthen Climate Resilience
AKP Phnom Penh, January 06, 2026 -- The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MOWRAM) has outlined strategic work plans to strengthen and promote the effective, efficient, and sustainable development and management of water resources and meteorology in Cambodia.
The remarks were made by H.E. Thor Chetha, Minister of MOWRAM, Chairman of the Cambodia National Mekong Committee, and Chairman of the Tonle Sap Authority, at an annual meeting held on Jan. 6 to review the Ministry’s work achievements in 2025 and define new objectives for 2026.
MOWRAM has identified work priorities and set out five key strategies including upgrading institutional governance and human resources; enhancing the efficiency of resilient irrigation infrastructure; bolstering water security and climate-related disaster management; integrating innovative technology into meteorological systems; and optimising the conservation of water resources.
“The Ministry, together with the Cambodia National Mekong Committee and the Tonle Sap Authority, has defined priority actions, indicators, timelines, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms based on a results framework to ensure success in strengthening water security, managing river basins and integrated water resources, protecting flooded forests, sustaining ecosystems, and promoting the effective, efficient, and sustainable development and management of water resources and meteorology,” he said.
The meeting also discussed and made presentations from relevant departments, authorities, and project management units supported by development partners including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the World Bank, and partner countries such as the Republic of Korea, France, Japan, China, and India.
