AKP Phnom Penh, December 28, 2025 —
Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, H.E. General Tea Seiha, on Sunday expressed hope that Thailand would act transparently and in good faith in implementing agreements reached at the 3rd Special General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting, stressing that full compliance was essential to ensuring the safety of troops and civilians on both sides.
The 3rd Special GBC Meeting between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Thailand was held at the Prom-Pak Kard Permanent International Border Checkpoint in Pailin province, Cambodia, opposite Chanthaburi province in Thailand. The talks were observed by representatives of the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT).
H.E. General Tea Seiha said the two sides had agreed to implement a ceasefire that came into effect at 12:00 p.m. on Dec. 27, 2025.
Under the agreement, following the full implementation of the ceasefire for 72 hours, 18 Cambodian soldiers will be released and returned to Cambodia in accordance with the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Joint Declaration, signed on Oct. 26, 2025.
“I hope the Thai side will uphold the spirit of this special meeting with transparency and sincerity, and strictly respect the ceasefire in the interest of peace, security and safety for the armed forces and the peoples of both countries,” H.E. General Tea Seiha said.
He added that both sides must work together to rebuild mutual trust and restore normalcy along the border.
The Cambodian Defence Minister also extended his wishes for peace and stability as the New Year approaches.
“I sincerely hope that the transition from 2025 to 2026 will bring peace, security and well-being to the peoples of both Cambodia and Thailand,” he said.
