UN Ready to Support Efforts for Peace and Stability

The United Nations Secretary-General welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand as a positive step towards alleviating the suffering of civilians, ending current hostilities, and creating an environment conducive to achieving lasting peace.
The statement was delivered by Mr. Stéphane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary-General, on Dec. 27.
The Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation to Malaysia, the current ASEAN Chair, as well as China and the United States, for their efforts in support of a peaceful resolution of the situation, he added.
The spokesman affirmed that the United Nations’ readiness to support efforts aimed at sustaining peace and stability in the region.
Meanwhile, H.E. Ms. Seema Malhotra MP, UK Minister for the Indo-Pacific, also welcomed news of a renewed ceasefire between the two neighbouring countries.
“Important that we now see continued dialogue and sustained implementation, supported by ASEAN, to put in place the conditions for long term peace,” she emphasised.
