AKP Phnom Penh, November 20, 2025 -- The Royal Government of Cambodia has prioritised the continuity of education for children displaced by a recent military aggression on Cambodian territory, offering a strong message of hope and commitment to the future generation.

Thousands of Khmer families from Prey Chan and Chouk Chey villages in O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, were forced to flee their homes following a severe cross-border attack by Thai soldiers on Nov. 12, 2025. The assault resulted in civilian casualties and mass displacement, interrupting the schooling of thousands of children.

Under the direct and compassionate attention of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, H.E. Abhisantibindit Sar Sokha, efforts are underway to ensure these displaced children and youth can resume their studies.

During a visit on Nov. 19, to the temporary safety centre established at Chan Sy Samaki Ratanaram pagoda in O’Beichoan commune, Banteay Meanchey Provincial Governor H.E. Oum Reatrey underscored that safeguarding the education of these children is a top priority for the Royal Government.

He emphasised that the commitment from the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister extends beyond providing basic welfare and security, reflecting a profound concern for the long-term prospects of Cambodia’s youth.

To facilitate seamless learning, an improvised school facility has been arranged directly at the Chan Sy Samaki Ratanaram centre. 
Governor Oum Reatrey appealed to all parents and guardians to register their children for primary education immediately.

Teachers from the displaced community of Prey Chan village have been mobilised to the site to ensure educational continuity and familiarity for the students.

In addition to distributing essential school supplies, the Governor stated that authorities are working to secure school uniforms, ensuring that students can attend classes appropriately.

These combined efforts highlight the Royal Government’s holistic approach, providing both material and moral support to prevent the conflict from derailing children's education.

The warm support and coordinated assistance from the Royal Government, provincial and district authorities, and local administrations have been met with profound gratitude by the thousands of families seeking refuge at the centre.

“We are truly grateful to the Royal Government, authorities, and all forces who have helped us in every way—from shelter and food to security,” one evacuee shared emotionally. “What means even more is the support for our children to continue their education right here in the safety centre. We no longer worry about their future.”

The humanitarian measures implemented affirm the far-sighted leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet, demonstrating the Royal Government’s strong sense of responsibility to ensure that no Cambodian child is left behind—even amid a crisis.

This initiative stands as a clear affirmation of the Royal Government's unwavering commitment to protecting and promoting the well-being and education of all citizens without discrimination.
