Thai Military Continues Attacks on Cambodian Civilians

The Thai military continued its attacks on Cambodian civilians this evening, said H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, Under Secretary of State and Spokeswoman for the Ministry of National Defence.
According to H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata, at around 3:50 p.m., Thai troops opened fire on Cambodian civilians in Prey Chan village, O’Beichoan commune, O’Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The assault reportedly resumed at 5:54 p.m. and military activities were still ongoing as of this evening.
Preliminary information from local authorities indicated that three civilians were injured and one was killed. The spokeswoman noted that the attack followed days of repeated provocations by Thai forces aimed at instigating confrontation.
During the incident, Cambodian forces and relevant authorities – who were unarmed and stationed in the area – were present to ensure the safety of civilians.
“Our forces and authorities strictly adhere to the ceasefire agreement, the Joint Declaration, and all previous agreements reached by both Cambodia and Thailand,” H.E. Lt. Gen. Maly Socheata affirmed. “Cambodia remains fully committed to resolving the issue peacefully and in accordance with international law.”
