The Battambang Provincial Administration released tens of thousands of lobsters and fishes into the Kamping Puoy Reservoir this morning in a ceremony to commemorate Cambodia's National Fishery Day.

The event, officially observed on July 1, was presided over by H.E. Nao Thuok, Member of the National Assembly for Battambang Constituency and H.E. Sok Lou, Governor of Battambang province.

In his address, Governor Sok Lou underscored the initiative's role in replenishing the nation's aquatic resources. He reported a notable rise in fish yields within the Tonle Sap region this year, crediting the Royal Government's ongoing commitment to natural resource protection.

The Governor issued directives to local authorities and law enforcement to intensify crackdowns on illegal fishing, emphasising the need to ensure the long-term sustainability of fisheries for future generations. He further called on communities to engage in conservation efforts and encouraged other localities to conduct similar fish releases.

According to Mr. Chhim Vichira, Director of the Battambang Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the release involved more than 90,000 aquatic species into the reservoir in Banan district. The stock included lobsters, varieties of fish species, alongside eels and tortoises.

Officials stated the programme aims to restore aquatic biodiversity in the Kamping Puoy Reservoir, thereby bolstering a vital food source for surrounding communities.
