Thailand Continues to Use Disturbing Sounds to Psychologically Intimidate Cambodian Border Villagers
AKP Phnom Penh, October 11, 2025 --
Thai armed forces have continued using disturbing loud noises such as ghost sounds, barking dogs, and airplane noises, etc. as a form of psychological intimidation and harassment to disturb Cambodian residents in Chork Chey and Prey Chan villages, O’ Beichoan commune, O’ Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province, on the night of Oct. 11.
According to an AKP reporter on site, the disturbing sounds in Chork Chey village lasted for more than an hour and ended at 10:20 p.m., when the Interim Observer Team (IOT) arrived at the scene.
The IOT also continued their field inspection to Prey Chan village where the Thai side began playing loud noises in Prey Chan village at around 11:00 p.m.
This marks the second consecutive night that Thai forces have used loud sounds to disturb the sleep of residents in Chork Chey and Prey Chan villages.
The incident has disrupted the villagers’ rest and seriously affected their mental, emotional, and physical well-being, particularly among the elderly, persons with disabilities, children, and the sick.
Earlier on the same day, H.E. Keo Remy, President of the Cambodian Human Rights Committee (CHRC), sent an urgent petition to H.E. Volker Türk, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, regarding Thailand’s use of loud sounds as a form of psychological intimidation and harassment.
