AKP Phnom Penh, April 19, 2025 --
Two vessels from the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF), Bungo (MST-464) and Etazima (MSO-306), arrived at Ream Naval Base in Preah Sihanouk province this afternoon for a four-day port call.
The vessels were welcomed during an official ceremony attended by Admiral Mean Savoeun, Deputy Commander of Ream Naval Base, and H.E. UENO Atsushi, Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia.
“The dispatch of these vessels by JMSDF contributes to the realisation of free and open Indo-Pacific as well as the peace and stability in the region and in the international community,” said the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia.
The two vessels, under the command of Captain Shinsuke Amano, Commander of Minesweeper Division 3, will stay in Cambodia until April 22, 2025.
Bungo and Etazima are the first foreign vessels to dock at Ream Naval Base since the official inauguration of its Phase 1 development on April 5, 2025 under the presidency of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
