Malaysian Army Chief Visits Cambodia to Bolster Military Cooperation
AKP Phnom Penh, April 19, 2025 —
General Tan Sri Dato’ Wira Muhammad Hafizuddeain Bin Jantan, Chief of the Malaysian Army, has commenced an official five-day visit to Cambodia at the invitation of General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander of the Royal Cambodian Army.
According to a press release issued by the Royal Cambodian Army and obtained by the State-owned Agence Kampuchea Presse (AKP) this morning, the visit, which runs from April 19 to 23, 2025, signals a commitment to strengthening defence ties between the two nations.
During his stay, General Hafizuddeain is scheduled to meet with prominent Cambodian leaders, including Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence General Tea Seiha, and Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces General Vong Pisen.
A central component of the visit will be a bilateral meeting at the Royal Cambodian Army Headquarters between General Hafizuddeain and General Mao Sophan. The two army chiefs are expected to hold detailed discussions focused on enhancing and broadening military cooperation between Cambodia and Malaysia.
Beyond official engagements in Phnom Penh, General Hafizuddeain and his delegation will also travel to Siem Reap province. There, they will explore the iconic Angkor Historical Site, offering them insights into Cambodia’s rich cultural heritage and ancient civilisation.
This visit highlights the deepening defence relationship and shared dedication to regional security between the Kingdom of Cambodia and Malaysia.
