PM Extends Condolences to Cambodian Victim of Thailand Earthquake
AKP Phnom Penh, April 18, 2025 --
Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has extended his deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Phalla Ratana, a Cambodian migrant worker who tragically lost his life in the recent earthquake in Thailand on Mar. 28, 2025.
“My wife and I pray for his soul to rest in peace and be reborn in a place of peace,” the Premier expressed.
Mr. Phalla Ratana, 24, is the second Cambodian officially confirmed dead following DNA autopsy results conducted by the Forensic Medicine Institute of the Police General Hospital in Thailand, as announced by Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training on April 17.
Upon receiving the tragic news, the ministry, in collaboration with the Royal Embassy of Cambodia in Thailand and the embassy’s Labour Attaché, took responsibility for all expenses related to the cremation and the completion of necessary documentation in accordance with Thai legal procedures. They are also assisting the family in securing the compensation to which they are entitled from the Thai authorities.
Since the earthquake struck, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, together with the Royal Embassy of Cambodia and the Labour Attaché, has been working closely with Thai authorities and the Cambodian community in Thailand to locate missing workers and to provide timely support to the families of Cambodian workers who were injured or lost their lives in the natural disaster.
