Samdech Techo Hun Sen Reflects on Memorable Events for April Moments from 50 Years Ago
AKP Phnom Penh, April 15, 2025–
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of the Kingdom of Cambodia, took to social media this morning to share his personal reflections on several significant events from over 50 years ago that left a lasting impact on his life.
In his message, Samdech Techo wrote, “April holds many unforgettable memories from over five decades ago.” He noted that April 4, 2025, marked the 55th anniversary of his decision to join the national liberation movement, responding the call of His Majesty King-Father Norodom Sihanouk (then Head of State of Cambodia).
He went on to recall that April 13, 2025, marked 51 years since he met his wife for the second time, after their first encounter and love at first sight in late March 1974 (April 13, 1974 – April 13, 2025).
Lastly, Samdech Techo noted that April 16, 2025, will be the 50th anniversary of the day he sustained a serious injury that led to the loss of sight in his left eye (April 16, 1975 – April 16, 2025).
Reflecting on the past, Samdech Techo stated, “In the span of more than half a century, I have experienced so much. Beyond the military, political, and national leadership aspects of my life, there were deeply personal milestones – my youth, marriage, becoming a father, and later, a grandfather. Now, I am waiting for the next chapter – becoming a great-grandfather – but that may still take some time, as my grandchildren are still pursuing their education.”
These reflections offer a rare personal glimpse into the life journey of one of Cambodia’s most prominent political figures.
