Peace Crucial for Cambodia's Development Goals, Emphasises Deputy Prime Minister
AKP Kampong Cham, April 02, 2025 —
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Aphi Santepundit Sar Sokha, Minister of Interior, has underscored the pivotal role of peace in driving Cambodia's socio-economic development, stating that sustained peace is indispensable for achieving the nation's ambitious goals.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new police station building in Kampong Cham province on April 2, he asserted that without peace, Cambodia's aspirations to become an upper-middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income nation by 2050 would be unattainable.
"Peace is the foundation of national socio-economic development," H.E. Sar Sokha declared during the ceremony at the Kampong Cham Provincial Police Commissariat. "Without peace, there is no opportunity for work, development, or the realisation of our national development plans."
The event drew a significant gathering of senior government officials, including secretaries and undersecretaries of state, provincial leaders from Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, and Kampong Chhnang, along with provincial police commissioners and deputy commissioners from neighbouring provinces.
H.E. Sar Sokha reiterated the necessity for authorities at all levels to remain vigilant in safeguarding security, public order, and the achievements secured under the Royal Government’s leadership. He urged the Kampong Cham Provincial Police Commissariat to intensify its efforts in implementing orders, guidelines, and legal frameworks to maintain peace, political stability, and territorial integrity, aligning with the Royal Government's policies.
He emphasised the importance of governance rooted in wisdom, ethics, and effectiveness, under the leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
Furthermore, he called for the enhanced implementation of the Safe Village-Commune Policy, viewing it as a cornerstone for maintaining public security and order.
The Deputy Prime Minister outlined specific areas requiring heightened attention, including the prevention of juvenile delinquency, a crackdown on all forms of gambling, increased awareness of drug trafficking, and strict enforcement of traffic laws. He also stressed the importance of emergency preparedness, particularly with the approaching Khmer New Year celebrations.
"We must ensure public safety and facilitate smooth traffic flow so that people can enjoy the traditional Khmer New Year festivities in a joyful and peaceful environment under the stable and secure leadership of Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet," H.E. Sar Sokha concluded, urging all relevant authorities to prioritise these measures.
