Cambodia Seeks Silicon Valley Ties: Minister Meets Plug and Play Co-Founder

Cambodia is exploring deeper ties with Silicon Valley's innovation ecosystem, as Cambodia’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, H.E. Chea Vandeth, met with Jojo Flores, co-founder of global accelerator Plug and Play LLC, to discuss potential collaboration.
The meeting, held at the ministry’s office here on Mar. 6, saw Minister H.E. Chea Vandeth outline Cambodia's progress in digital transformation, including e-government initiatives, digital skills training, and support for emerging tech businesses.
Joko Flores, whose company boasts a network of 80,000 startups and partnerships with hundreds of corporations and government agencies worldwide, praised Cambodia's efforts in capacity building and fostering a startup environment.
He emphasised the potential for these initiatives to drive significant economic growth.
"The ministry's commitment to nurturing digital talent and supporting new ventures is commendable," Flores stated. "These are the key ingredients for a thriving innovation ecosystem."
Plug and Play, headquartered in Silicon Valley, USA, is known for its extensive investment portfolio, having backed 1,600 startups and continuing to invest in approximately 250 new companies annually.
The company's global reach and experience in connecting startups with established corporations and government partners offer a significant opportunity for Cambodia's burgeoning tech sector.
Both parties concluded the meeting by expressing a strong commitment to strengthening collaboration, signaling a potential boost for Cambodia's digital ambitions through a closer relationship with the influential Silicon Valley accelerator.
This move highlights Cambodia's strategic focus on leveraging international partnerships to accelerate its digital economy.
