Cambodia, India to Continue Collaboration in Women Empowerment

Cambodia and India have pledged to foster their bilateral cooperation in women’s economic empowerment.
The joint commitment was highlighted in a meeting between H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi, Cambodian Minister of Women’s Affairs and H.E. Vanlalvawna Bawitlung, Indian Ambassador to Cambodia, at the ministry on Monday.
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi warmly welcomed and highlighted the good cooperation between the Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Government of India through the Embassy of the Republic of India in Cambodia on several projects, including the capacity development program for civil servants of the Ministry in various skills and the implementation of a Quick Impact Project, which is a project to build school buildings for children at the primary school level.
According to H.E. Minister, recently, the ministry has received support from the Government of India in implementing a project on Khmer women pattern setter (chorabab) with the aim of developing skills in the production and design of silk products, finding markets, and preserving Khmer traditional heritage for future generations.
H.E. Ambassador Vanlalvawna Bawitlung expressed interest in expanding cooperation on strengthening the capacity of women leaders in various fields, including entrepreneurship, governance, and digital, etc., as well as exploring the possibilities of networking for women entrepreneurs to seek opportunities for collaboration and expand the business market of women entrepreneurs from both countries.
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi further emphasised the importance of people-to-people connectivity, and the promotion of women’s economic empowerment through entrepreneurship, investment, and business is essential to contribute to development in all sectors.
H.E. Dr. Ing Kantha Phavi expressed sincere thanks to the Government of India, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of India in Cambodia, for their continued support of Cambodia, as well as the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, in contributing to promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls.
