Tourism Sector Expected to Generate US$5 billion in Revenue This Year
AKP Phnom Penh, February 28, 2025 --
Cambodia’s Ministry of Tourism has forecast 7.2 to 7.5 million international visitors, which would generate some US$5 billion revenue for the country in 2025.
H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, highlighted the positive growth in tourism industry at the closing ceremony of the ministry’s annual meeting on Feb. 27.
The Kingdom’s tourism sector has suffered a severe blow for several years since the outbreak of COVID-19 and the impact of Russia-Ukraine war, but the sector has gradually rebounded in the last two years despite ongoing geopolitical conflicts, he said.
“According to forecasts, in 2025, international tourism revenue would reach US$5.1 billion, contributing approximately 10.5 percent of gross domestic product (GDP),” H.E. Huot Hak pointed out.
In 2024, Cambodia received 6.7 million international tourists, an increase of about 23 percent compared to 2023, with 22.52 million domestic tourists, an increase of 20.1 percent compared to 2023.
The international tourist arrivals generated a total revenue of US$3.63 billion, contributing approximately 9.4 percent of GDP.
Cambodia is well-known for its world cultural heritage sites, including the Angkor Archaeological Park in Siem Reap province, the Preah Vihear Temple and Koh Ker Temple in Preah Vihear province, and the Sambor Prei Kuk Archaeological Site in Kampong Thom province.
Besides, the Kingdom has a 450-kilometre-long pristine coastline stretching across four southwestern provinces of Preah Sihanouk, Kampot, Kep and Koh Kong.
The Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Ministry of Tourism, continues to promote and provide various incentives to the tourism-related private sector to attract international tourists.
Additionally, the ministry has boosted cooperation with foreign embassies/representatives in Cambodia, development partners, Cambodian embassies-consulates abroad, and so on to promote Cambodian tourism destinations.
