Cambodia, Vietnam Discuss Cooperation Enhancement

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. PRAK Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Nguyen Minh Vu, discussed enhancing the traditional friendship and close cooperation between the two countries, during a courtesy call by the latter at the ministry on Feb. 18.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, during the courtesy meeting, H.E. PRAK Sokhonn congratulated Ambassador Nguyen on his appointment and reaffirmed his full support for the ambassador's mission to advance Cambodia-Viet Nam relations.
H.E. PRAK Sokhonn and Ambassador Nguyen highly valued the long-standing ties, good neighbourliness, and comprehensive cooperation across all fields between the two countries. They expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory in Cambodia-Viet Nam relations, marked by high-level exchanges and engagements, including the state visit of His Majesty the King of Cambodia to Viet Nam, the state visit of General Secretary To Lam, President of Viet Nam, to Cambodia, and the visit of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate in 2024.
They also discussed preparations for the upcoming working visit of Samdech Techo and Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister to Viet Nam and emphasised the importance of strengthening cooperation under the bilateral, regional, and international frameworks.
On economic cooperation, H.E. Deputy Prime Minister and the Vietnamese envoy welcomed the steady growth of bilateral trade, which reached US$7.78 billion in 2024, and the growing tourism flow between Cambodia and Viet Nam, reflecting stronger people-to-people ties. They looked forward to convening the 21st Cambodia-Viet Nam Joint Commission on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technological Cooperation in Cambodia later this year to broaden mutually beneficial cooperation.
On defence and security, they reiterated both countries commitment to peace, stability, and development along the shared border, and agreed to strengthen collaboration in combating transnational crimes. They also looked forward to the finalisation of border demarcation work.
Ambassador Nguyen lauded Cambodia's political stability, steady socio-economic progress and numerous notable achievements under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister Hun Manet, and affirmed the commitment to fostering closer cooperation throughout his tenure.
