Information Spokesperson Reacts Against OHCHR's Report
AKP Phnom Penh, August 05, 2022--
H.E. Meas Sophorn, Under Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Information, has reacted against a report issued by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
“The OHCHR's report is not complete, it is not something new because the report writers always collected information unilaterally and from a small group of people,” said H.E. Meas Sophorn.
Even though there are already explanations from the Ministry of Information and concerned institutions, the writers did not take the explanation into account, he continued.
Press and publication freedom has been ensured by Cambodia press law, other laws and judicial norms in accordance with the constitution, so professional journalists can fulfill their duty anywhere and all times to collect information from authoritative sources.
The journalists are valued and given freedom without any discrimination, and the situation of press freedom in Cambodia is constantly improving.
There are 2,117 listed national and international media agencies and some 6,000 national and foreign journalists working in Cambodia; and there are more female journalists now.
He also encouraged journalists to be responsible and comply with the laws which is a professional act, not intimidation.
