AKP Phnom Penh, June 23, 2022 --
Cambodia has shipped some 310,000 tonnes of milled rice to international markets as of June this year, a 21.73 percent year-on-year increase, earning US$191 million, according to the Cambodia Rice Federation (CRF).
The figure was shared at the launching ceremony of two new collective marks – SKO for fragrant rice and DSMK for glutinous rice on Thursday.
The CRF pointed out the paddy rice export was 1.69 million tonnes in the January-May period, earning some US$391 million, up 4.5 percent compared to the same period last year.
“As projected by CRF, the milled rice export in 2022 would likely reach 700,000 to 750,000 tonnes, up about 100,000 tonnes from that in 2021,” it added.
With the official launch of the two new collective marks SKO for fragrant rice and DSMK for glutinous rice, Cambodia is expected to see the increase in milled rice export in years to come, said H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, at the launching ceremony.
