Cambodia Officially Launches New Rice Collective Marks
AKP Phnom Penh, June, 23, 2022 --
Two new collective marks – SKO for fragrant rice and DSMK for glutinous rice – were officially launced on June 23, aiming to increase and promote fragrant rice grains and compete with other rice producing countries on international markets.
The launching ceremony was held under the presidency of H.E. Pan Sorasak, Minister of Commerce, Mr. Song Saran, President of Cambodia Rice Federation, and other stakeholders at Sofitel Phnom Penh Phokeethra.
Speaking at the function, H.E. Pan Sorasak said that the launch of “SKO” fragrant rice and “DSMK” glutinous rice is important to establish the identity of fragrant rice Cambodia so as to increase sales to international markets, augment income for Cambodian farmers, and enhance competitiveness on international markets.
The ministry has paid high attention to the rice sector, boosting the sector to be more competitive, H.E. Minister underlined.
Cambodia exported 283,675 tonnes of milled rice during the first five months of this year, 64.10 percent of which were all kinds of fragrant rice, while white rice accounted for 33.12 percent, parboiled rice and organic rice for 1.42 percent each. China remains the biggest market for Cambodian rice, followed by 23 European countries and 4 ASEAN member countries.
