Germany Grants US$670 Million to Support Cambodia's Development as of 2021
AKP Phnom Penh, September 30, 2022 --
Up to last year, Germany has disbursed around US$670 million in grant aid, equivalent to 2.6 percent of the total grand funding provided by development partners to Cambodia.
The figures were shared in a courtesy meeting here on Wednesday between H.E. Chhieng Yanara, Minister attached to the Prime Minister and Secretary General of the Cambodian Rehabilitation and Development Board of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CRDB/CDC), and H E. Stefan Anton Messerer, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia.
According to a CDC's press release, the grant aid went to priority areas, especially rural development, health and social protection, governance, and climate change.
On the occasion, both H.E. Chhieng Yanara and H E. Stefan Anton Messerer discussed the progress of bilateral development cooperation between Cambodia and Germany, and exchanged views and experiences to further strengthen and enhance future cooperation and partnership.
H.E. Minister also informed H.E. Ambassador about the preparation for the Governmental Consultations on Development Cooperation between the RGC and the German Government, which is scheduled to be held in October 2022.
H.E. Ambassador Stefan Anton Messerer highly valued the long cooperation between the RGC and German Government since 1994 and praised the RGC for putting forward the principle of ownership as guidance for development cooperation, making it easier for the development partners to direct their assistance to align with Cambodia's national priorities.
In addition, both sides discussed and exchanged views on microfinance sector and concessional loans.
