Cambodia Re-emphasises the Need for Cooperation and Mutual Assistance
AKP Phnom Penh, August 18, 2022 --
Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, this morning said that cooperation and mutual assistance are very necessary amid numerous challenges the world are facing.
The Cambodian Premier made the comments while presiding over here at the Peace Palace the handover ceremony of 300,000 pediatric doses of COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine from Spain to Cambodia through Ms. Cristina Elisa Aguilar Jiménez, Chargée D'Affaires a.i., Embassy of Spain to Cambodia, Thailand, Laos and Myanmar.
“As COVID-19 has subsided but not yet ended, the whole world is also facing many other alarming challenges that can disrupt the momentum of the global socio-economic recovery. In particular, rising fuel prices have led to high inflation everywhere, especially the United States and the European Union, which have forced the central banks to raise interest rates to curb the rise in inflation but could lead to a decline in global demand. Moreover, high inflation has also been putting increasing pressure on the daily lives of our people,” he said.
“In these difficult and unpredictable circumstances, we need cooperation and mutual assistance than ever before. In this spirit, I would like to encourage the prioritisation of the welfare of the people and public health, strict adherence to the spirit of mutual assistance, and strengthening of cooperation in all fields,” he underlined.
As the Chair of ASEAN in 2022, he reaffirmed, Cambodia will strive to strengthen cooperation within the ASEAN region, as well as between ASEAN-European Union and ASEAN-Spain.
Ms. Cristina Elisa Aguilar Jiménez echoed Samdech Techo Prime Minister’s remarks over the significance of cooperation to find long-term solutions to global challenges.
Besides, she spoke highly of Cambodia’s role in UN forums and ASEAN chairmanship this year, and wished Cambodia success in its efforts to turn the region into a peaceful and prosperous place for all.
